Emily Liquin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of New Hampshire, where she leads the ELM (Exploration, Learning, and Mind) Lab. Her research focuses on curiosity, exploration, question asking, and innovation as mechanisms for human learning and discovery. She employs interdisciplinary methods from cognitive and developmental psychology, philosophy, and artificial intelligence to investigate how information-seeking behavior evolves from childhood to adulthood and how prior knowledge shapes active learning.
Research Interests: Cognitive Development/Processes, Cognitive Sciences, Cognitive Psychology, Exploration, Human Learning and Memory, and Play. Her work examines the functional role of curiosity in learning, including studies on novelty-seeking, explanation-seeking behavior, and creative search strategies.
Teaching: She has taught courses such as Advanced Research Experience and Psychology of Curiosity.

Labs & Teams: The ELM Lab welcomes thesis students and undergraduate research assistants, with recent members including Madeline Klotz, Kara Dudley, Virginia Schwarz, Lyra Joson, and Ella Curtis. The lab actively participates in conferences like the Society for Philosophy and Psychology and the Cognitive Science Society.
