Emily Herry serves as an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology at Converse University's School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, where she will launch the Identity, Development, Equity, And Stigma (IDEAS) Lab in the fall to advance research on marginalized populations.
Her academic credentials include:
- PhD in Lifespan Developmental Psychology from North Carolina State University (Social Development Lab under Dr. Kelly Lynn Mulvey)
- Postdoctoral fellowship in Sexual and Gender Minority Health at The Ohio State University (IRIS Lab, Dr. Christina Dyar) and University of Connecticut (Brenick Lab, Dr. Alaina Brenick)
- BS in Psychology with Sociology minor from UNC-Greensboro (DUCK Lab with Drs. Janet Boseovski and Stuart Marcovitch)
- AA from Alamance Community College
Dr. Herry's scholarship examines how bystander responses to identity-based victimization intersect with stigma-related stressors to shape mental health and identity development across the lifespan among sexual and gender minorities. Her work integrates developmental psychology with social justice frameworks to address systemic inequities in healthcare and educational contexts.
The upcoming IDEAS Lab will operationalize her dual research pillars through community-engaged methodologies, focusing on contextual factors that exacerbate or mitigate health disparities for marginalized groups.
