Dr. Emily Grout is a researcher in the Department for the Ecology of Animal Societies at the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior, Konstanz, Germany, and a member of the Research Group Strandburg-Peshkin. Her work centers on the behavioural ecology of social mammals through rigorous field-based data collection and advanced tracking technologies.

Her academic training includes a Zoology undergraduate degree and Master's by research from the University of Bristol. For her Master's, she investigated alloparental care in wild dwarf mongooses at the Dwarf Mongoose Research Project in South Africa, analyzing how dominance status, sex, and age influence caring behaviors. She completed her PhD studying communication and collective movement in white-nosed coati groups across the Americas.
