Emily Gallagher is an Associate Professor of Finance at the Leeds School of Business, University of Colorado Boulder, where she co-directs the Center for Research on Consumer Financial Decision Making. Her research bridges household finance, climate change, insurance, and real estate, often using quasi-experimental methods applied to geospatial, regulatory, and financial datasets.
Research Focus: Gallagher investigates how households prepare for and recover from financial shocks, particularly climate-related disasters. She explores topics like underinsurance, crowdfunding, and low-income financial decision-making. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, NPR, and BBC World Service, and cited in the 2023 Economic Report of the President of the United States.
