Emily Elia is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg, affiliated with the ERC-funded Fem-LEAD Project. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Rice University (2024). Her research examines electoral accountability and representation in democratically challenged contexts, focusing on how corruption influences voter behavior, elite strategies, and gender dynamics in politics. She investigates whether environmental crises in the Global South affect the political representation of women. Methodologically, she employs quantitative approaches like survey experiments, large-N statistical analysis, and text analysis, with a regional focus on Latin America, including fieldwork in Argentina. Her work appears in Political Behavior and Electoral Studies.
