Emily C. Davidson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Princeton University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science. Her research integrates polymer synthesis, characterization, and additive manufacturing to create hierarchical materials addressing challenges in health and environmental sustainability.
- Ph.D. Chemical Engineering, University of California, Berkeley (2016)
- S.B. Chemical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2010)
Her work focuses on designing stimuli-responsive polymers, programmable alignment via 3D printing, and sustainable materials. By combining molecular design, self-assembly, and additive manufacturing, she develops soft architectures with applications in energy, environment, and biomedicine.
Recent publications highlight her emphasis on chemically recyclable polymers, liquid crystal elastomers, and sequence-defined materials. Themes include sustainable manufacturing, advanced self-assembly, and dynamic material programming.
Scientific Awards
- Alfred Rheinstein Faculty Award (2023)
- DOE Early Career Award (2022)
- Scientista ‘Born Seekers’ Fellowship (2019)
- UCSB International Research Fellowship (2015)
Davidson mentors graduate and undergraduate researchers, including recent advisees and lab members recognized with teaching awards. Her team actively engages with the broader soft matter community through workshops and collaborative projects.
