She holds a B.A. in History and African American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, an M.A. from the College of William and Mary, and a Ph.D. from Emory University.
Dr. Blanck’s research focuses on the legal and cultural dimensions of slavery, emancipation, and freedom in American history. Her first book, *Tyrannicide: Forging an American Law of Slavery in Revolutionary South Carolina and Massachusetts* (2014), examines how Revolutionary-era legal frameworks shaped slavery’s legal foundations. Her current project, *Remembering Emancipation: Juneteenth as America’s Emancipation Holiday*, explores Juneteenth’s evolution from a local Texas celebration to a national commemoration of emancipation. This work has produced notable publications, including an article in *Western Historical Quarterly* (2019) and an entry in the *Oxford Research Encyclopedia of American History* (2020).
Her scholarship bridges legal, cultural, and social history, with a focus on African American experiences and the intersection of law, memory, and identity. She actively contributes to public history initiatives, including community engagement projects and interdisciplinary collaborations like the college’s *Operation Uganda* program.
