Emily Avery-Miller is an Associate Teaching Professor in the English Department at Northeastern University’s College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH). Her work focuses on first-year writing pedagogy, service-learning, and interdisciplinary writing initiatives. She holds an MFA from Emerson College and has been recognized for her contributions through awards including the Emerson College President’s Award (2014) and multiple Service Learning Innovation Grants (2015–2016).
Her research interests emphasize community engagement and the intersection of writing with civic responsibility. Key areas include designing writing projects that bridge academic and community contexts, leveraging digital tools for experiential learning, and fostering student activism through writing.
