Emily A. Phillips, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of English at Saint Louis University’s College of Arts and Sciences. She teaches courses including The Process of Composition, Advanced Writing for Professionals, and online offerings in Junior-Level Writing and Creative Thinking. Her research focuses on writing pedagogy, digital classroom integration, and contemporary American literature/culture. Phillips holds a B.A. from McKendree University, an M.A. from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and a Ph.D. from Saint Louis University.
Her scholarly work spans literary analysis of race/gender dynamics in texts like The Help, studies of African American poetry and public history, and postmodern explorations of identity. Recent presentations address technology’s role in fostering classroom engagement and mental health. She has contributed to conferences on hauntology in drama, gender performance in medieval hagiographies, and postmodern genre experimentation.
Phillips’ publications include peer-reviewed analyses of Elizabeth Alexander’s poetry and a chapter on Kathryn Stockett’s The Help.
