Emilio Mari is an Associate Professor in the Department of European, American and Intercultural Studies at Sapienza University of Rome. Specializing in Russian language, literature, and culture, his academic work bridges literary analysis, cultural anthropology, and urban ethnography with particular focus on folklore studies and Soviet cultural history.
His research interests include:
- Russian and Soviet folklore traditions
- Provincial and urban cultural landscapes in Russian literature
- Petersburg studies and dacha culture
- Kolkhoz literature and Soviet cultural policy
- Relationships between literature and visual arts in the Slavic context
- Contemporary urban folklore
Mari's scholarly output reveals a consistent thematic focus on how space, culture, and power intersect in Russian contexts. His recent publications demonstrate expertise in analyzing folklore adaptations in urban environments, particularly in St. Petersburg, and examining how regional identities are constructed in literature. His translations of Yuri Lotman's works have made significant Russian theoretical texts accessible to Italian scholars.
As an educator, Dr. Mari teaches Russian Language courses (I, II, and III) and Russian Literature and Culture to students in the Mediazione Linguistica e Interculturale and Lingue, Culture, Letterature, Traduzione programs. He serves as academic mobility coordinator for France and Eastern Europe, advising students on Erasmus+ exchanges, and maintains active engagement through Google Classroom platforms for all his courses.
