He is based at Palazzo Vendramin and teaches courses such as Environmental Humanities and Ecology and Art at the master’s level. Since 2024, he has also served as a Senior Researcher in Italian Culture and Environmental Humanities at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.
His research lies at the intersection of literature, art, and ecological thought, focusing on the Environmental Humanities, Ecocriticism, and the Anthropocene. He explores how cultural forms—especially Italian literature, cinema, and contemporary art—represent environmental change, extinction, and human-nonhuman relations. His work frequently engages with Venice as a symbolic and material site of ecological crisis and cultural resilience.
Guaraldo’s recent publications reveal a consistent trend in interdisciplinary scholarship that combines literary analysis, visual culture, and ecological theory. He has contributed to journals such as Literary Geographies, Lagoonscapes, and Enthymema, and has edited volumes on ecological art and Italian science fiction. His research projects include visualizing the Anthropocene at the Venice Biennale and exploring planetary environmental change through arts-based representations.
