Emilia Silvas

Emilia Silvas is an Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). She holds dual roles as a Scientist and Team Lead (Cooperative Control Systems Team) at TNO's Integrated Vehicle Safety Department. Her research focuses on cooperative/autonomous vehicle systems, mobile robots, advanced control methods, and optimal system design. She leads projects funded by the Dutch Automotive Research Program (HTAS) and collaborates on hybrid vehicle system design, predictive control, and fault estimation.

Education: PhD in Mechanical Engineering (TU/e, 2015), MSc in Systems and Control (TU/e, 2011), BSc in Automatic Control & Computer Science ('Politehnica' University of Bucharest, 2009).

Research Interests: Autonomous driving safety, model predictive control, hybrid electric vehicles, data mining (AI/ML/statistics). Key subtopics include drivable space estimation, lane merging automation, and thermal management systems.

Grants & Media: Received HTAS funding for hybrid vehicle research. Featured in press releases about self-learning thermal management systems (2024) and efficient low-emission powertrains (2024).
