Emilia Amengual Cladera

Dr. Emilia Amengual Cladera serves as a Full-time Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology within the School of Fundamental Biology and Health Sciences at the University of the Balearic Islands. Her teaching spans undergraduate programs (Biochemistry, Biology, Nursing) and two Master's degrees (Biomedical Research, Nutrition and Human Food), covering industrial applications, metabolic integration, and clinical nutrition.

Her research centers on energy metabolism and nutrition, with specific expertise in metabolic alterations associated with obesity and diabetes, cardiovascular risk factors, metabolic syndrome, and interorgan nutrient cycles. This focus aligns with her membership in the GMEIN (Metabolisme energètic i nutrició) research group, where she investigates pathological mechanisms in metabolic diseases.

Professor Amengual Cladera actively mentors students through Master's Theses and Final Degree Projects in Biochemistry. Her teaching consistency over five academic years (2020-21 to 2024-25) demonstrates sustained engagement with courses including Industrial Biochemistry, Biochemistry and Nutrition, Metabolic Integration, and specialized Master's modules on metabolic pathologies.

As a core member of the GMEIN research group—a consolidated R&D&I structure at UIB—she contributes to collaborative investigations into nutritional biochemistry and metabolic disorders, maintaining an active laboratory environment focused on translational health research.
