Dr. Emese Vegh is a researcher in the Department of Evolutionary Anthropology at the Faculty of Life Sciences. Her work focuses on the intersection of archaeological sciences, geochemical analysis, and bone diagenesis, with particular emphasis on cremated bone and forensic anthropology.
Her recent research explores:
- Geochemical stability of burnt and cremated bones
- Multivariate statistical methods (Principal Component Analysis, Discriminant Analysis) for postmortem damage assessment
- MALDI-ToF mass spectrometry applications in taxonomic identification
Key themes in her 2024 publications include elemental mobility analysis, collagen preservation in archaeological contexts, and semi-automated species identification techniques.
She is currently leading the project Human Evolution Beyond Collagen (2024-2027) with collaborators from the UK Archaeological Sciences Conference and Bioinformatics journal.
