Emese Ilyefalvi is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Folklore, Faculty of Humanities, Eötvös Loránd University. She is affiliated with the Institute of Ethnography and Folklore and previously contributed to the MTA-ELTE Lendület Historical Folkloristics Research Group (2018–2023). As a scientific associate of the East-West Religious Ethnology Research Group at the Institute of Ethnography, her work bridges folklore studies, digital humanities, and historical ethnography.
- PhD in Hungarian and Comparative Folkloristics (ELTE Doctoral School of Literary Studies, 2013–2019)
- Editor of the digital database of Hungarian Spells
- Active in international library research (Oxford, Helsinki, Vienna, Turku, Uppsala, Cork, Dublin, Göttingen, Nuremberg, Amsterdam, and Canadian libraries during 2018–2019)
Her research explores Hungarian folk tales, incantations, and cultural transmission, with a focus on digital archiving and ethnographic fieldwork. She has participated in podcasts like the MTA Podcast and literary shows such as Könyvmustra, discussing career challenges in academia and the societal role of folklore studies.
