Emery Neufeld

Emery Neufeld is a PostDoc Researcher at the Vienna University of Technology, affiliated with the Faculty of Informatics and the Theory and Logic Group. His work focuses on integrating logic-based normative reasoning with machine learning in autonomous agents.

Research Interests: Emery specializes in hybrid AI systems that combine reinforcement learning (RL) with formal methods for normative reasoning, aiming to ensure ethical and legal compliance in autonomous decision-making. His research includes normative supervisors for RL agents, deontic logic applications, and multi-objective RL frameworks.

Projects and Funding: He is currently working on the TAIGER project (2023–2027), funded by the Vienna Science and Technology Fund (WWTF), which explores ethical rule integration in AI agents.

Key Contributions: Emery developed the Normative Supervisor, a module interfacing RL agents with normative reasoning engines like SPINdle. He is also advancing DDL-to-LTL synthesis algorithms for ethical constraint enforcement.
