معرفی
Emanuele Morezzi is an Associate Professor in Architectural Restoration at the Department of Architecture and Design (DAD) of the Polytechnic University of Turin. He serves as Academic Advisor for the Master's degree program in Architecture for Heritage and is actively involved in multiple research initiatives focused on architectural conservation, particularly concerning ruins and dissonant heritage.
Dr. Morezzi obtained his PhD in Cultural Heritage in 2011, the same year he received his professional architect qualification and registered with the Architects' Association of the Province of Turin. Since then, he has held teaching positions at the Polytechnic of Turin and has served as visiting professor at institutions including Aleppo University of Architecture (2011), the Pratt Institute in New York (2015), Yildirim Beyazit University in Ankara (2018, 2021), and the University of Architecture in Belgrade (2019).
His research primarily focuses on the conservation of buildings in ruins, the valorization of historic architecture, restoration theory, and the protection of dissonant heritage linked to war and interpretative conflicts. He serves as coordinator for the research projects Co.RAVe. (Conservation of Archaeological Ruins in Vegetal Contexts) and Co.Co.WAR (Dissonant Heritage and War: Conservation and Communication of a Difficult Legacy). His work intersects with multiple Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to sustainable cities, life below water, and peace and justice.
Analysis of Dr. Morezzi's recent publications (2023-2025) reveals a strong focus on the intersection of architectural ruins with natural environments, particularly through the Co.R.A.Ve. project at the Etruscan Necropolis of Cerveteri. His work also extensively addresses dissonant heritage related to war, particularly Yugoslav-era memorials, and engages deeply with theoretical questions of authenticity in architectural conservation. His scholarship bridges practical conservation techniques with philosophical inquiries into the meaning and value of architectural remains.
Dr. Morezzi serves on multiple scientific and editorial committees, including as a founding member of the FoRS – Focus on Ruskin Studies International Research Center at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, and as a member of PerspectLAB – Laboratory for the Theory, Creation and Politics of Space. He is also a Full Member of SIRA (Italian Society of Architectural Restoration) and serves on editorial boards for journals including RESTAURO ARCHEOLOGICO, DIGITAL INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ARCHITECTURE, ART, HERITAGE, and Khorein: Journal for Architecture and Philosophy.
As an academic advisor, Dr. Morezzi has supervised PhD students including Tommaso Vagnarelli (2019-2023) on "Cura e azione volontaria. Prospettive di conservazione partecipata per la Necropoli etrusca della Banditaccia di Cerveteri" and Cristiano Tosco (2020-2024) on "Sapere ricostruire. Un caso di intervento post sismico sul patrimonio rurale delle Marche meridionali." He coordinates multiple research networks including Recovery Syria: heritage, monuments and reconstruction, and the Archaeological heritage survey (2018-2025).
Dr. Morezzi leads several significant research initiatives, most notably the Co.R.A.Ve. project examining the interaction between vegetation and archaeological ruins at the Etruscan Necropolis of Cerveteri, and the Co.Co.WAR project addressing the conservation challenges of war-related dissonant heritage. His work bridges academic research with practical applications through collaborations with heritage institutions including the Archaeological Park of Cerveteri and Tarquinia and the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the Metropolitan Area of Rome.
