Emanuele Fantini

Emanuele Fantini is an academic and researcher affiliated with IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, where he serves as Coordinator of the MSc program in Water Management and Governance. He also coordinates modules in the MSc Sanitation program and teaches at the University of Utrecht and University of Amsterdam. His research focuses on water governance, human rights to water, media communication in transboundary water conflicts, and interdisciplinary visual methods. Fantini has conducted extensive fieldwork in Ethiopia, studying the Pentecostal movement and developmental state dynamics. He leads a multinational action research project involving journalists and scientists in the Nile, Brahmaputra, and Lake Chad basins.

He actively engages in public outreach through podcasts like 'The Sources of the Nile' and 'Water Alternatives Podcast,' and edits the IHE Delft Water Governance Blog (FLOWs). As a member of the IHE Delft Research Ethics Committee, he emphasizes ethical research practices. Fantini has over ten years of experience in international development cooperation with organizations such as UN Habitat and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working across Ethiopia, South Sudan, Kenya-Somalia, Morocco, Serbia, and Myanmar. His work bridges academia and practice through participatory methodologies and youth engagement in water management projects.
