Elvan Yilmaz

Prof. Dr. Elvan Yilmaz is a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at Eastern Mediterranean University's Faculty of Arts & Sciences. With a PhD in Chemistry from Middle East Technical University (1991), she specializes in polymer science with applications in biomedical materials and adsorption systems.

Her research focuses on hydrogel synthesis, chitosan composites, and graft polymerization for biomedical applications. She investigates material properties like cell viability, mechanical strength, and adsorption capacity for wastewater cleaning or drug delivery systems. Her work spans three decades, with recent projects optimizing poly(ethylene glycol methacrylate)-based cryogels and poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) hydrogels.

She has supervised 8 PhD theses and 23 Master's theses since 1994, including research on metal oxide composites, interpenetrating polymer networks, and iodine-containing polymer films. Her projects include:

• Cryogels of poly (ethylene glycol methacrylate) and N-vinyl imidazole (BAPC-04-21-05, 2021-2022)
• Cryogels of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and N-(2-hydroxyethyl) methacrylamide (BAPC-04-21-04, 2021-2022)
• Synthesis of Poly (Vinyl cinnamate)-graft-Poly (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) copolymers (BAPC-04-18-02, 2018-2019)
