Elsa Bouchard is a Full Professor in ancient Greek language and literature at the University of Montreal’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences, affiliated with the Department of Philosophy and the Centre d’études classiques. Her research focuses on ancient literary theory, early reception of Greek poets, and exegetical methods like allegoresis and etymological interpretation. She has held the prestigious Chaire Esope de philosophie (2020–2024) and leads major research projects such as the Compendium of Cornutus and the CRIHN initiative. Her teaching spans introductory Greek literature courses to advanced seminars on Hellenistic poetry and tragedy.
Her scholarly contributions include monographs like *Du Lycée au Musée* (2016) and over 20 articles analyzing Homeric epithets, Hellenistic epigrams, and Aristotelian poetics. She has supervised numerous MA theses on topics ranging from Euripidean rage to Platonist pedagogy. Current projects explore ancient etymology’s role in cosmology and the application of Aristotle’s *Poetics* in classical scholarship.
