Els Goetghebeur

Els Goetghebeur is a Full Professor at Ghent University’s Department of Applied Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistics. She chairs the UGent expert Center for Statistics and leads the causal inference group for STRATOS, an international consortium advancing analytical rigor in observational studies. Additionally, she serves as chief editor of Statistics in Medicine, underscoring her influence in methodological research.

Her work centers on biostatistics, with emphases on:

• Causal inference: Developing methods to estimate treatment effects in observational data.
• Survival analysis: Modeling time-to-event outcomes, particularly in cancer epidemiology.
• Quality of care: Evaluating healthcare performance using statistical benchmarks.
