Elliott Ross is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. His research focuses on cellular signaling pathways, particularly those involving GTP-binding proteins, G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), and phospholipase C (PLC) regulation. He investigates mechanisms of signal initiation, amplification, and termination, with emphasis on Gαq/11 and RGS protein interactions.
Key research themes include: 1) Dynamic regulation of G protein signaling through RGS proteins and palmitoylation, 2) PLCβ isoform-specific activation by Gαq and Gβγ subunits, and 3) Systems-level analysis of GPCR signaling networks. Methodologies include biochemical reconstitution, mutagenesis, and computational modeling.
Over 78 peer-reviewed publications span 40+ years, with notable contributions to understanding Gαq regulation by PLCβ1, RGS protein-Gαz interactions, and mTORC1 nutrient sensing. His work bridges molecular mechanisms with cellular physiology in contexts like neuronal plasticity and metabolic regulation.
