Elliott Powell is Beverly and Richard Fink Professor in Liberal Arts and Associate Professor of American Studies and Asian American Studies at the University of Minnesota. His research examines Afro-South Asian musical collaborations, queer black aesthetics, and sexuality politics in popular music. Award-winning book Sounds from the Other Side explores cross-cultural exchanges in black popular music.
Current projects include Erotic City: Minneapolis, Prince, and the Porn Wars and Illegitimate Sounds. Honors include Woody Guthrie Book Award, Philip Brett Book Award, and Morse-Alumni Distinguished Teaching Award.
