معرفی
Elliott Hershel Lieb is a renowned Professor of Mathematics and Physics at Princeton University since 1975. His academic journey includes professorships at MIT and Yeshiva University, and postdoctoral roles at Cornell, University of Illinois, and IBM Research Center.
- Education: BSc in Physics from MIT (1953), PhD in Mathematical Physics from the University of Birmingham (1956).
Research Interests span mathematical physics, quantum many-body systems, statistical mechanics, condensed matter physics, functional analysis, and operator inequalities. His work on Lieb-Thirring inequalities, Lieb-Robinson bounds, and density functional theory has profoundly shaped modern theoretical physics and mathematics.
Recent Publications emphasize quantum information theory, density functional approximations, nonlinear quantum systems, and inequalities in functional analysis. Trends include quantum entropy, many-body localization, and mathematical foundations of quantum mechanics.
- Honors and Awards: 1970 Boris Pregel Award, 1978 Heineman Prize, 1988 Birkhoff Prize, 1992 Max Planck Medal, 1998 Boltzmann and Onsager Medals, 2001 Rolf Schock Prize, 2002 Austrian Medal of Honor, 2003 Poincaré Prize, 2021 ESI Medal, 2022 APS Medal, Gauss Prize, Dirac Medal, and 2023 Kyoto Prize in Basic Sciences.
Doctoral Students include Rafael Benguria, Jennifer Tour Chayes, Robert McCann, Jan Philip Solovej, and Horng-Tzer Yau. His influence extends through over 500 publications and foundational work in quantum entropy, stability of matter, and exactly solvable models.
