Elliot Eichen

Elliot Eichen is a Research Professor at the University of Colorado, with concurrent academic appointments as Visiting Industry Professor at Tufts University, Adjunct Professor at Northeastern University, and a staff member at MIT. He holds a BS in Physics from SUNY Stony Brook, a PhD in Optics from the University of Arizona, and an MBA from Boston University. His career spans over three decades in industry, including roles at GTE Labs, Genuty/Verizon Labs, and retirement as Director of R&D at Verizon in 2017. He served as an IEEE/AAAS Congressional Fellow from 2018–2019, supporting Senate and House Science Committees. His research focuses on spectrum sharing, qubit-resistant cybersecurity, and 5G/6G communications. Notable contributions include over 60 peer-reviewed publications and 70 US patents. His advisees work in major telecom industries and startups globally.

Research interests emphasize practical spectrum management solutions, including geofencing for satellite-terrestrial coexistence and cybersecurity resilient to quantum computing threats. Recent work explores 5G/6G network architectures and regulatory frameworks for dynamic spectrum access. He has pioneered testbeds like the RF-Flashlight for real-time spectrum validation and contributed to national radio dynamic zones (NRDZ) initiatives.

Publications from 2021–2025 highlight advancements in geographic spectrum sharing, millimeter-wave integration, and satellite-communication synergy. His 2018–2023 work addresses secure provisioning and dynamic network management. He has advised students employed by leading carriers, equipment vendors, and communication startups, fostering industry-academia collaboration.
