Ellen McCallum is a Professor of English and Film Studies at Michigan State University's College of Arts & Letters, affiliated with the Department of English and GenCen. Her work bridges feminist/queer theory, psychoanalysis, and literary/media studies. She teaches core theory courses, queer film studies, and experimental writing seminars. Recent research includes monographs on Gertrude Stein and co-edited volumes on queer studies.
Her research interests span aesthetic ontology, queer temporality, and feminist pedagogy, with interdisciplinary focus on transmedial forms (literature/film). Notable publications include Unmaking The Making of Americans (2018) and After Queer Studies (2019). Awards include Choice Magazine's Outstanding Academic Title (2019) and the 2024 CAL Legacy Lecture Award.
Teaching spans undergraduate to graduate levels, emphasizing critical theory, LGBTQ studies, and digital humanities. Recent courses include 'Queer Theory: What to Do with Bodies and Pleasures' and 'Digital Mapping and New Narrative.'
