Ellen L. Short is an Associate Professor of Graduate Counseling Programs and Chairperson of the Department of Counseling and School Psychology at Long Island University's School of Education (Brooklyn campus). With a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from New York University, her work focuses on group dynamics intersecting race, ethnicity, gender, and culture, alongside multicultural assessment and social justice in counseling.

Her research explores systemic approaches to structural inequalities, including co-editing Talking About Structural Inequalities In Everyday Life (2016) and Racial and Cultural Dynamics in Group and Organizational Life (2010). Dr. Short contributes to academic discourse through journal articles and book chapters addressing multicultural counseling, intelligence testing disparities, and critical race theory in social systems. She serves on editorial boards for the Journal of Clinical Counseling and Journal for Specialists in Group Work.
