Ellen Hostert is a Professor of Biology at the University of Maine. Her research focuses on genetic variation in natural populations, particularly examining immune system genes in Atlantic salmon using techniques like PCR and SSCP. She has previously studied coyote-wolf hybridization in Maine and maintains a research interest in evolutionary biology and molecular analysis. Her academic background includes a Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Cruz, an M.A. from the University of Northern Iowa, and a B.A. from Cornell College.
Research interests include population genetics, conservation genetics, and animal genetics. Her work applies molecular biology tools to address evolutionary questions in wildlife populations.
