Ellen Damschen is a Full Professor in the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research focuses on ecological processes affecting species diversity, particularly under human-induced global changes. She bridges basic and applied ecology using long-term datasets and large-scale experiments in grasslands and savannas.
Key research interests include connectivity effects on plant communities, habitat fragmentation impacts, climate change adaptation, functional traits, and restoration strategies. Her lab studies ecosystems such as Midwestern prairies, oak savannas, and southeastern longleaf pine woodlands.
