Ellen Cook

Ellen Cook serves as a Senior Lecturer, Programme Communications Lead, Year 3 Lead, and Placement Co-ordinator for Sports Rehabilitation within the HAS - Allied Health Professions department at the University of the West of England. With over 20 years of professional experience in sports medicine, she brings extensive practical knowledge to her academic role which she joined in April 2019.

Her research interests focus on specialized areas of sports rehabilitation including female and masters athletes, concussion management, and head injuries in sports. She examines how biomechanics, physiology, and engineering principles can be integrated to improve rehabilitation outcomes across diverse athletic populations. Her work emphasizes practical application in real-world sports settings while maintaining scientific rigor.

As Programme Communications Lead and Year 3 Lead, Cook oversees curriculum development and student progression within the Sports Rehabilitation program. She coordinates placement opportunities that connect students with professional sports organizations. Her industry connections span numerous high-level sports organizations including NFL teams, Great Britain and England Basketball, International Rugby 7s, and various national sports programs.

Cook leads the SPARK (Specialists in Prosthetic Advancements and Rehabilitation Kinetics) collaboration, which brings together engineers, designers, researchers, physiotherapists, and sport rehabilitation specialists. This multidisciplinary team takes a holistic approach to rehabilitation, blending engineering and technology with human physiology and biomechanics to develop innovative rehabilitation solutions.
