Ellen Burton Harrington

Ellen Burton Harrington is a Professor and Chair of the English Department at the University of South Alabama, specializing in British Victorian literature, detective and sensation fiction, and 19th-century gender and colonial contexts. Her research explores how Joseph Conrad’s works engage with sensationalized female typologies to critique patriarchal and colonial frameworks.

• Authored book: Conrad's Sensational Heroines: Gender and Representation in the Late Fiction of Joseph Conrad (2017).
• Co-edited collections: Scribbling Women and the Form of the Short Story (2008) and special issue Conradian Crosscurrents (2020 for 2016).
