Elle Gerdeman

Elle Gerdeman is a Design Critic in Architecture at Harvard Graduate School of Design and principal of CO–G studio, specializing in material assemblies and robotic systems.

Her research examines construction processes, weathering effects, and maintenance through bio-inspired designs. She investigates cultural production through environmental interactions, with work spanning adaptive electronics, multifunctional materials, and robotic fabrication.

Notable projects include FloatLab (Progressive Architecture Award-winning submersible structure) and collaborations with MIT Media Lab on the 2020 Empathy Pavilion. Her practice integrates academic research with built installations exploring dynamic material behaviors.
