Ella Hu, Ph.D., MLS, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Foundational Medical Studies at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine (OUWB). She joined OUWB in 2025 as a Medical Librarian, bringing extensive experience in academic medical librarianship and scientific information services.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN
- M.L.S. in Library Science, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN
Her research and professional focus centers on enhancing library services through rigorous assessment, evidence-based collection development, and advancing health information literacy. She specializes in supporting evidence synthesis, including systematic reviews, and plays a key role in instructional and research support within the medical school environment.
Dr. Hu is actively engaged in professional service, contributing to organizations such as the Medical Library Association (MLA), Michigan Health Sciences Libraries Association (MHSLA), and the Metropolitan Detroit Medical Library Group (MDMLG), where she has participated in various committees at both institutional and association levels.
She has served on multiple committees in higher education and professional associations, demonstrating strong institutional engagement and leadership in academic library governance and service development.
Dr. Hu works from Office 130 Kresge Library and is a core faculty member supporting the educational and research missions of OUWB through innovative library science practices.
