Elizabeth Shulman is an Adjunct Lecturer at Northwestern University's School of Education and Social Policy (SESP) and an English Teacher at Evanston Township High School. She joined Northwestern in 2019 and has been at Evanston Township High School since 2013. Her academic background includes a B.A. in English and Hebrew from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1992), an M.Ed. in Secondary Education from Loyola University Chicago (2000), and an M.A. in English and Hebrew Literature from Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1996).
Shulman's research focuses on integrating anti-racist pedagogy into curricula and fostering dialogue between Israeli and Palestinian youth through grant-sponsored programs. She has also received National Endowment for the Humanities grants to study in Mississippi, Florida, and Atlanta. As a creative nonfiction writer, her essays appear in outlets like The Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, and Slate.
Her work bridges educational equity, cultural studies, and conflict resolution, emphasizing actionable curricular strategies to address systemic inequities.
