Elizabeth Richmond-Garza is an Associate Professor of English at the University of Texas at Austin in the College of Liberal Arts. She holds the UT Regents’ and Distinguished Teaching Professor title and serves as affiliated faculty in the Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies and the Program in the Human Dimensions of Organizations. She previously directed UT’s Program in Comparative Literature (2001-2022) and served as chief administrative officer of the American Comparative Literature Association (2002-2011).
Her educational background includes degrees from UC Berkeley, Oxford University, and Columbia University (Ph.D., 1992).
Richmond-Garza specializes in Modern European drama, Oscar Wilde, Gothic literature, Orientalism, Decadence, and detective fiction, with deep expertise in literary theory and literature-fine arts intersections. Her multimedia teaching methodology explores aesthetic frameworks across cultural contexts, emphasizing strategic thinking and belongingness through eight world languages.
