Elizabeth Keith

Elizabeth Keith is a Professor at the Washington College of Law (WCL) at American University, where she has been since 2008. Prior to this, she taught at George Mason University School of Law (now Antonin Scalia Law School), where she also served as Assistant Director and Director of its Legal Research, Writing, and Analysis program. Before academia, she practiced civil litigation with Odin, Feldman & Pittleman, P.C.

Education:

• B.A. with distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Phi Beta Kappa)
• J.D. cum laude from George Mason University School of Law, where she was Editor-In-Chief of the George Mason Law Review, and a member of the Moot Court Board and Inns of Court.

Research Interests: Her work focuses on Appellate Advocacy, Legal Writing, Reasoning, and Research, and Trial Advocacy, emphasizing practical legal skills and scholarly contributions to legal education.

Advising and Institutional Roles: She has led educational programs and currently serves as Editor-In-Chief of The Second Draft (Legal Writing Institute’s online publication). Her roles include membership in the Virginia State Bar and American Bar Association.

Labs/Teams: She leads initiatives in the Legal Rhetoric program at WCL and contributes to the Legal Writing Institute through editorial and leadership roles.
