Elizabeth Jewkes is a Professor in the Department of Management Sciences at the University of Waterloo. Her research focuses on operations research models in manufacturing and healthcare systems, including queueing theory applications to ambulance systems and academic scheduling. She co-authored the textbook Engineering Economics: Financial Decision Making for Engineers (6th ed., Pearson Education Canada). Dr. Jewkes has held significant administrative roles: Associate Dean Computing (1996–2000), Chair of Management Sciences (2001–2010), and Associate Provost, Resources (2013–2017).
Education: PhD (Management Sciences) from the University of Waterloo (1988), MBA (Operations Management) from the University of Calgary (1982), and BASc (Honours Mathematics) from St. Francis Xavier University (1980).
Research interests span queuing theory, inventory control, supply chain optimization, and healthcare operations. Her work integrates simulation and stochastic modeling to address real-world challenges like ambulance resource allocation and emergency department efficiency.
Dr. Jewkes actively supervises graduate students and holds Approved Doctoral Dissertation Supervisor (ADDS) status. Her recent publications emphasize strategic decision-making in competitive markets and healthcare systems.
