Elizabeth Horan is a Professor in the English Department at Arizona State University (ASU) and holds affiliations with the Partnership for Community Development and Lincoln Center Applied Ethics. She specializes in Latin American Literature, with a focus on Gabriela Mistral, biography, archives, and gender studies. Her work bridges literary analysis with digital humanities and feminist critique.
Educations: Ph.D. in Literature (UC Santa Cruz), M.A. in Literature (UC Santa Cruz), A.B. in Arts (Barnard College).
Research Interests: 20th Century Literature, Acculturation, Gender Studies, Digital Humanities, Poetry. Her research emphasizes archival exploration, transnational networks, and the intersection of literature with diplomacy and politics.
Publications: Eleven books including Mistral, una vida: solo me halla quien me ama (2023), Preciadas Cartas (2019), and translations of Carmen Lyra's works. Her articles analyze literary correspondence, queer theory, and Cold War contexts in Latin American literature.
Awards: Organization of American States Grand Prize, PEN-USA Finalist, Best Translation Prize (New England Council).
Teaching & Leadership: Served as Chair of the English Department (2002-2004), teaches courses on World War II Literature, spy fiction, and Latin American cultures. Develops online and immersion courses.
