Elizabeth Goad Oliver

Elizabeth Goad Oliver serves as Associate Dean of the Williams School and holds the Lewis Whitaker Adams Professorship in Commerce at Washington and Lee University, where she has been a faculty member since 1991. She teaches accounting research and corporate social responsibility courses while directing the Washington and Lee London Internship Program and advising Student Consulting for pro bono work with small businesses and nonprofits.

Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Accounting from Texas A&M University (1992), M.S. in Accounting from the University of Virginia (1986), M.A. in English from the University of Kansas (1974), and A.B. from Mary Baldwin College (1972).

Professor Oliver's research centers on corporate social responsibility and sustainability, positive organizational scholarship in performance evaluation, and cross-cultural accounting. Her work evolved from international studies of pension systems to contemporary analyses of workplace culture, generational dynamics, and social media's business impact, consistently bridging accounting theory with organizational behavior.

Recent publications demonstrate a clear trajectory toward positive psychology applications in performance management and sustainability integration, alongside continued contributions to accounting education leadership through the American Accounting Association and Federation of Schools of Accountancy.

She actively mentors students through the London Internship Program and Student Consulting initiative while holding significant university leadership roles including former Accounting Department Head. Her professional service includes Vice Presidency for Leadership Development in the Accounting Program Leadership Group, editorial board membership at Business Horizons, and a Faculty Fellowship at Arthur Andersen.
