Elizabeth Ezra

Elizabeth Ezra is a Professor of Cinema and Culture at the University of Stirling. She holds a PhD from Cornell University and an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Her academic career includes roles at Cornell, Hamilton College, and the State University of New York before joining the University of Stirling in 1995. She currently directs the French program and has led interdisciplinary cinema programs such as Global Cinema and Literature & Cinema.

Ezra's research spans film studies, posthumanism, material culture, and colonial history. Her notable works include The Colonial Unconscious (2002), Georges Méliès (2019), and Shoe Reels: The History and Philosophy of Footwear in Film (2021, co-edited with Catherine Wheatley). She focuses on objects in cinema, posthumanism, and the intersection of film with colonialism, exoticism, and children’s literature.
