Elizabeth Cerkez is an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Department of Chemistry at Temple University's College of Science and Technology. She earned her Ph.D. from Temple University (2016) and a B.A. from La Salle University (2009). Her research explores geochemistry and environmental chemistry, focusing on interactions between toxic oxyanions (e.g., arsenite, chromate) and mineral surfaces using techniques like ATR-FTIR and XPS. She investigates redox transformations and environmental solubility implications, with projects ranging from iron oxide adsorption to photochemical reactions in protein-confined systems.
Her pedagogical approach integrates research methodology into undergraduate labs. She received the Italia-Eire Foundation Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award in 2020.
Her publications highlight environmental remediation, nanomaterials, and surface chemistry, with recent work on manganese oxides, plasmonic biomaterials, and photocatalytic degradation.
