Elizabeth Burnside

Elizabeth Burnside, MD, MPH, is a Professor of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She serves as Co-Executive Director of the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) and Associate Dean in the School of Medicine and Public Health. Her research focuses on computational methods to enhance decision-making in breast imaging and population-based breast cancer screening.

Her multidisciplinary research is supported by continuous NIH funding since 2006, totaling $4.6 million, and includes affiliate appointments in the Departments of Industrial Engineering, Biostatistics and Medical Informatics, and Population Health Science. She maintains an active clinical practice as a breast imaging specialist, performing diagnostic and interventional procedures for early breast cancer detection.

Dr. Burnside mentors clinician scientists and trainees through programs like BIRCWH, LEADS, and the Pathway Program, emphasizing translational research. She has contributed to the development of Learning Health Systems and served as a charter member of the NIH Biomedical Imaging Technology (BMIT) Study Section.
