Dr. Elizabeth Burakowski is a Research Assistant Professor at the University of New Hampshire (UNH), affiliated with the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans and Space and the Department of Earth Sciences. Her research focuses on winter climate change in the northeastern US, examining historical trends, future projections, and impacts on ecosystems and human communities. She teaches courses like Paleoclimatology (ESCI 765/865) and Arctic Research Methods (MARI 902).
Her education includes a Ph.D. and M.S. in Earth & Environmental Sciences from UNH and a B.A. from Wellesley College. Research interests span snowpack dynamics, climate modeling, and interdisciplinary projects like the Convergent Arctic Perspectives in Research and Education (CARPE) graduate training program.
Publications highlight work on atmospheric rivers, reforestation impacts, snow depth measurement techniques, and winter tourism vulnerabilities. She actively contributes to field safety (UNH Research Fieldwork Safety Committee) and outdoor advocacy (Granite Outdoor Alliance board).
