Elizabeth Brondolo is a Professor of Psychology at St. John's University, affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Her work focuses on the psychophysiological impacts of interpersonal conflict, racism, and ethnic discrimination on health outcomes. She leads the Social Stress and Health Research Unit, investigating mechanisms linking stress to cardiovascular disease risk. Her research has been funded by NIH, the American Heart Association, and St. John’s University. Collaborations include Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and Flushing Hospital Medical Center, where her team supports clinical research aimed at improving healthcare for diverse communities.
Dr. Brondolo’s clinical expertise includes treating bipolar disorder, PTSD, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. She co-authored Break the Bipolar Cycle: A Day-to-Day Guide to Living with Bipolar Disorder, providing patient-focused strategies for managing the condition. Her research on perceived racism employs the Perceived Ethnic Discrimination Questionnaire, validated across Black, Latino, and Asian populations.
Her interdisciplinary approach bridges behavioral science with medical research, training family medicine residents in community-based interventions. Key areas of focus include hypertension management and culturally competent care in underserved communities.
