Dr. Elizabeth Bingham Thomas is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Brigham Young University's College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences. As a biocultural medical anthropologist, she investigates interactions between culture and biology with focus areas in health, religion, immigration, social support, and gender dynamics.
Her research employs both ethnographic methods and biological measurements including hormone analysis. Current projects examine how Latino/a immigrants and Latter-day Saints understand social support (ministering) and its relationship to stress and depression.
Research specializations include:
- Biocultural approaches to stress measurement
- Transnational family dynamics
- Religion and health outcomes
- Gender and mental health
Dr. Thomas welcomes students interested in gaining research experience in these areas.
