Elizabeth Athens

Elizabeth Athens is Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Connecticut's School of Fine Arts. She holds a Ph.D. from Yale University, an M.A. from Williams College, and a B.A. from Lawrence University.

Research Focus: Examines intersections of art and natural history in 18th-19th century transatlantic contexts. Key interests include:

• History of collecting and display practices
• American material and visual culture
• Graphic practices in natural history documentation
• Artistic responses to scientific discovery

Her publications analyze visual representation across historical periods, particularly examining how art mediated scientific knowledge and cultural exchange between America and Europe.
