Eliza Mitova is a Senior Research and Teaching Associate at the Department of Communication and Media Research, University of Zurich, within the Division of International & Comparative Media Research. She holds a M.A. and B.A. in Social Sciences (summa cum laude) from the University of Zurich, specializing in Communication Science & Media Research with a Political Science minor. Her research focuses on algorithms and news personalization, political communication, political emotions, empirical methods, social media, and participatory culture.
Eliza has contributed to multiple international studies examining user perceptions of news recommender systems, media professional practices, and algorithmic transparency. She has organized academic events through roles like the IKMZ PhD Clubs Organisation Committee and teaches courses on algorithmic impacts in political communication and empirical methods at both BA and MA levels.
Her work integrates interdisciplinary approaches, including collaborations with institutions like the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) on projects such as her doctoral research on news recommendation systems in high-choice environments. She has also engaged in corporate communication roles and research assistantships, bridging academic and applied contexts.
