Dr. Eliza Hartrich is a Senior Lecturer in Late Medieval History at the University of York's Department of History. She holds a BA (Hons) from Oxford, MA from Durham, and DPhil from Oxford. Previously, she was a Lecturer at the University of Sheffield and University of East Anglia, and held fellowships at Magdalen College Oxford and the Institute of Historical Research.
Her research examines towns in the British Isles during the 14th-15th centuries, employing interdisciplinary approaches to urbanism, rebellion, networks, and empire. Her monograph explores Prussian state-building after civil war, and her current project investigates urban citizenship in colonial contexts.
Publications focus on medieval archives, urban governance, and utopian systems, revealing consistent themes in administrative structures and social change. Her awards include the Scouloudi Doctoral Fellowship and Fellow-by-Examination distinction.
She serves as Deputy Chair of the Board of Studies and GTA Coordinator, mentoring graduate teaching assistants.
