Dr. Elissa Ferguson is a Lecturer in Visual Arts at the University of North Georgia, specializing in ancient Egyptian art and archaeology with complementary expertise in 19th-century European painting and ancient Mesoamerican art. Her research reconstructs ancient Egyptian social structures through tomb art analysis integrated with textual and archaeological evidence.
She holds a Ph.D. in Art History from Penn State University (2019), an M.A. in Art History from the University of Memphis (2012), and a B.A. with Honors in Art History from Berry College (2010).
Dr. Ferguson teaches diverse courses spanning Art Appreciation, History of Photography, and specialized topics in ancient Mediterranean art. Her pedagogical approach emphasizes analytical skill development across undergraduate levels while serving as faculty advisor for the Art History minor program.
Her scholarship examines family dynamics and power structures in New Kingdom tomb art, with recent conference presentations exploring gendered interpretations of witchcraft narratives and the sociopolitical functions of funerary monuments. She maintains active membership in the American Research Center in Egypt.
