Elisabeth Helene Koschier is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Plant Protection within the Department of Agricultural Sciences at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU). Her research focuses on agricultural entomology, chemical ecology, and behavioral control of arthropod pests. She has held prominent academic roles including Deputy Head of the Institute since 2013 and Assistant Professor since 2002.
- Habilitation: University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (2010)
- Doctoral Degree: University of Agricultural Sciences Vienna (1996)
Her research investigates chemical ecology and insect-plant interactions, particularly for pests like sugar beet weevils (Asproparthenis punctiventris), onion thrips (Thrips tabaci), and western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis). She explores plant compounds for behavioral manipulation of pests, with emphasis on deterrents, repellents, and semiochemicals.
Key trends in her recent publications include host plant selection mechanisms, effects of plant volatiles on thrips behavior, and nutritional ecology of agricultural pests. Her work extends to biological control strategies and integrated pest management.
- Scientific Awards: Peter Jordan Prize (2001)
Koschier serves as reviewer for journals like Journal of Insect Behavior and Pest Management Science. She is an active member of international societies including the International Society of Chemical Ecology and IOBC.
